Cruise lines deploy ships where the weather and demand are best, so which regions have cruise sailings depends on the month. This calendar shows the usual pattern for ocean cruises so you can match your travel dates to a realistic region before you search.

Using the Calendar

If your dates are fixed, start with the regions in season and pick from those. If your destination is fixed, search inside its season and look at the shoulder weeks at each end, which are often quieter. Repositioning voyages link the seasons, which is why spring and autumn are such good months for one-way crossings; see repositioning cruises 2027.

Holiday Weeks in Each Region

The holiday calendar shapes what sells first. Christmas, New Year and spring-break sailings in the Caribbean fill early, as do July and August departures in Alaska and the Mediterranean. If your dates are tied to school breaks, look for those sailings as soon as a season opens and be ready to choose between ships rather than between weeks. Travelers free to go outside those weeks usually have far more cabins to pick from.

Shoulder Seasons

The edges of each season — late April and September in Alaska, April and October in the Mediterranean, early summer in the Caribbean — often bring smaller crowds and different light. Weather is less predictable, so pack layers and keep plans flexible.
